Ryan Flaherty (West Chester, PA/ Henderson) scored
the game-winner and his first goal of the season in a 4-1
non-conference win for the Philadelphia University men's soccer
team (2-1-2) over Concordia College (3-2) on a rainy Friday
night.
The Rams struggled to generate any offense in the first period,
taking just five shots and going into the half tied 0-0.
Phila U. picked up the tempo in the second half, as Flaherty
scored the Ram's first goal at 52:56, assisted by sophomore
Mike Mousaw (Marmora, NJ/ Ocean City).
Junior Robert Richardson (Warwick, RI/Berkley
Institute) got his first score of the year at 70:29 as he headed a
corner kick into the net from sophomore Jim
DiTantro (Wallingford, PA/Archmere Academy). Junior
Svetozar Gladic (Novi Sad, Serbia) followed suit
with his fourth goal of the year, unassisted just one minute later.
The Clippers broke their silence with just two minutes left in
regulation, as Darha Xhovano scored to make it 3-1.
Ram freshman Lee Ziegler (Clifton, VA/ Phelps
School) added the last goal of the game at 88:42 to net his first
goal in maroon and grey, assisted by freshman Ian
Martin (Beachwood, NJ/ Toms River South).
Senior goalie Charles Custer (Cinnaminson, NJ/
Cinnaminson) had seven saves, while Concordia keeper Anthony
McCarthy had four stops for the Clippers.
The Rams travel to Wilmington University on Wednesday, September
17th for a 4:00 p.m.
