New Castle, DE- The Philadelphia University
men's soccer team (9-4, 6-3 CACC) suffered a 4-3 loss on the road
at Wilmington University (14-2, 8-0 CACC) on Wednesday
evening. The win keeps WU undefeated in conference play,
while the Rams continue to struggle when playing away
contests.
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead with a goal just 41 seconds
into play, but PhilaU responded on a shot by freshman midfielder
Sean Crossland (Birdsboro, PA/Exeter Township
Senior H.S) at 18:20, assisted by senior forward Svetozar
Gladic (Novi Sad, Serbia). WU would go on to score
two more goals in the first period, to lead 3-1 going into
halftime.
PhilaU scored two more goals in the second half, a goal by
Gladic at 53:08 and a close-range nudge at 57:40 by senior
Kristoffer Perez (Parlin, N.J./Christian Brothers
Academy)-both assisted by sophomore midfielder Ryan
Purnell (Freeport, Trinidad/Notre Dame). The
Wildcats scored one more-the game-winner by Sargbah Tarpeh early in
the first half. The Ram goals would not be enough as they
trailed the rest of the way, outshooting WU 16-10 but falling 4-3
to end it.
PhilaU senior goalie Buddy Custer (Cinnaminson,
NJ/ Cinnaminson) had two saves in goal, while WU Duhan Malali made
six saves for the 'Cats.
The Rams return to action on Saturday (10/17) at home vs.
Concordia at 12 p.m.
