Box Score Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University (9-5,
2-1 CACC) lost the battle on the boards and hence the game in a
74-68 loss to Assumption College (6-3, 4-2 NE-10) at Holy Family
University on Tuesday afternoon. The Greyhounds outrebounded
PhilaU 52-29, gaining 14 second chance points off that statistic
alone.
While the Rams turned the ball over less (11-17), the squad was
outshot from field goal range (44%-40%).
PhilaU never led, and AC shot off on a 9-4 lead in the first
half at the 14:33 mark. PhilaU cut it to three with a layup
by senior forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia,
PA/ Solebury Prep) to make it 9-6 just a minute later. Ingram
led all scorers with 28 points and six rebounds.
PhilaU freshman guard Jim Connolly
(Harleysville, PA/ Souderton Area) hit a key three at the 1:22 mark
to get the Rams within one, but the Greyhounds held on for a 36-33
halftime lead. Connolly had five points and four assists in
the game.
In the second half, a jumper by AC's Kevin Donohue at 15:48 put
the Greyhounds up 46-35, but a bucket from PhilaU senior guard
Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall)
cut the AC lead to seven at 13:42 (48-41). Frederick had 10
points, seven boards and five assists on the day.
PhilaU battled on with a 6-2 run, keyed by senior guard
Marcus Lemon's (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams)
three-pointer at 7:33 to make it 56-57. Over a minute of
scoreless play went by (including 1-4 free-throw shooting from the
'Hounds) before AC added a point to lead by five (63-58) near
the five minute mark.
In the final minutes, PhilaU freshman guard Ed
DiRugeris (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Pennsbury) laid in a
deuce to put his team within a point (65-64) but AC finished the
contest on a 9-4 run to win it 74-68.
PhilaU will not rest as they face Stonehill College tomorrow
(12/30) at Holy Family's Campus Center at 1 p.m.
