Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University men's basketball team (25-5, 14-2 CACC) clinched their second consecutive CACC Championship with a 63-56 win over the Bloomfield College Deacons (23-7, 15-1 CACC) on Saturday night.  PhilaU head coach Herb Magee surpassed Dean Smith on the NCAA men's all-time wins list with 880 victories.  Magee is now #3 all-time.

PhilaU junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) earned CACC Tournament MVP honors, as he notched 14 points and six assists in the win.  Joining him on the All-Tournament team were junior forwards Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) and Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy).  Both led PhilaU on the night with 16 points, and Yocum added five blocks.

Despite BC taking 30 more shots than PhilaU (70-39), the Rams led by as many as 11 points in the first half, going into halftime up 39-29.  The Deacons made it interesting in the second half, cutting the PhilaU lead to 60-55 with 31 seconds remaining on two made free-throws by BC's Gage Daye.  Daye led all scorers with 25 points.  But it was too little, too late for BC as PhilaU scored three more points to close out the 63-56 win.

The Rams move on to NCAA Regionals next, at a TBD site from 3/14, 3/15 and 3/17.  The NCAA Division II Selection Show will be on Sunday, March 8th at 9 PM.  Click here to watch it live.  Regional winners advance to the men's Elite Eight will be held at American International College and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts on 3/25, 3/26, 3/28.
