Newsradio Post-Game Interview
Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University men's basketball team (25-5, 14-2 CACC)
clinched their second consecutive CACC Championship with a 63-56
win over the Bloomfield College Deacons (23-7, 15-1 CACC) on
Saturday night. PhilaU head coach Herb Magee
surpassed Dean Smith on the NCAA men's all-time wins list with 880
victories. Magee is now #3 all-time.
PhilaU junior guard Russell Frederick
(Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) earned CACC Tournament MVP honors, as
he notched 14 points and six assists in the win. Joining him
on the All-Tournament team were junior forwards Malcolm
Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) and Mike
Yocum (Dresher, PA/ Episcopal Academy). Both led
PhilaU on the night with 16 points, and Yocum added five blocks.
Despite BC taking 30 more shots than PhilaU (70-39), the Rams
led by as many as 11 points in the first half, going into halftime
up 39-29. The Deacons made it interesting in the second half,
cutting the PhilaU lead to 60-55 with 31 seconds remaining on two
made free-throws by BC's Gage Daye. Daye led all scorers with
25 points. But it was too little, too late for BC as PhilaU
scored three more points to close out the 63-56 win.
The Rams move on to NCAA Regionals next, at a TBD site from
3/14, 3/15 and 3/17. The NCAA Division II Selection Show will
