Emmanuel Asangmbeng (Riverdale, MD/ Bladensburg)
stepped into the spotlight with the game-winning goal as PhilaU
(7-2, 4-1 CACC) captured a 3-2 men's soccer non-conference win over
Washington Adventist University (4-7) on Wednesday night.
The Rams didn't turn on the offensive juice until the second
half, falling behind on a WAU goal at the 32:00 mark in the first
period.
Senior forward Kristoffer Perez (Parlin, NJ/
CBA) tied the game on a pass from sophomore forward/midfielder
Ian Martin (Beachwood, NJ/ Toms River South) at
66:07 in the second half. Just 20 seconds later, junior
midfielder Ryan Flaherty (West Chester, PA/
Henderson) scored on a free kick to give PhilaU the 2-1 go-ahead.
Asangmbeng's game-winner came in the 71st minute off
a throw in from senior forward Svetozar Gladic
(Novi Sad, Serbia). WAU came back to score in the
83rd minute, but that was all they could manage as the
Rams pulled out a 3-2 road win.
PhilaU senior keeper Buddy Custer (Cinnaminson,
NJ/ Cinnaminson) had two saves, while WAU's Luis Caro made 14
stops.
The Rams return to action for PhilaU's homecoming match on
Saturday (10/3) at 2:30 p.m. at Ravenhill Field.
