Box Score Lyndhurst, NJ- The Philadelphia University men's soccer team (2-3, 1-2 CACC) came up just short as Felician College (3-3, 1-1 CACC) hung on to hand the Rams a 2-1 loss on Saturday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
It was the first victory for the Golden Falcons over Philadelphia in four all-time meetings. The all-time series between Felician and the Rams began in 2008 after Philadelphia reclassified from NCAA Division I, and the Golden Falcons had been outscored, 10-2, in the first three meetings.
All of the match's scoring came in the opening period. Sutcliffe got Felician on the scoreboard first, working a give and go with Azzato before finishing at 12:12. A Golden Falcon miscue led the Rams to tie the match, when the hosts were whistled for a handball in the penalty area at 26:32. Philadelphia senior Ryan Purnell converted a penalty kick for the equalizer. FC scored the game-winner in the 36th minute.
The physical contest saw the teams whistled for a combined 43 fouls and eight cautions. Sophomore goalie Alex Heston stopped three shots for Philadelphia and FC freshman goalkeeper Rafal Krauze had three saves.
