Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team battled third-ranked LIU Post for a full 90 minutes, but in the end the Rams fell to the Pioneers, 1-0, in a non-conference match Tuesday on Ravenhill Field.
The Rams are now 7-5-4 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 13-1-0.
In the 87th minute, LIU Post was awarded a free kick about 20 yards away from the goal. Cemil Turan stepped up to take the kick and sent a bending ball around the Philadelphia wall into the upper right corner of the net for the match's lone goal.
The Pioneers had a chance in the 65th minute with a penalty kick attempt after a Ram foul just inside 18. Eirik Broernoe took the kick and hit the outside of the right post to keep the match scoreless.
Philadelphia's best opportunities came during the 59th minute. Forward Jakob Passernig forced Marco Jorgensen to make a diving save, which resulted in a rebound. Midfielder Adam Miller corralled the rebound and fired off a shot just to the outside of the net.
Philadelphia's Neil Kwiatkowski played well in goal, making five saves, including numerous diving saves. Jorgensen had six stops for the Pioneers. LIU Post had a 20-10 shot advantage.
Philadelphia closes out its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with a road match at Bloomfield on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
