Men's tennis ends fall season with 9-0 win over Rider

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with a 9-0 victory over Division I Rider on the Abraham Salaman Courts Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams end the fall with an overall record of 2-3, while the Broncs dip to 1-7.

Senior Ayman Barakat (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Kharkiv Specialized English School #3) and sophomore Chris Casamassima (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) picked up an 8-1 win over Sean Sweeney and Kyle Stratton in the No. 3 doubles match. The No. 1 tandem of junior Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emilie Anouar) and sophomore Houston Ward (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson) defeated Rollie Malfitano and Nick Lubold, 8-2. Junior Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and sophomore Dylan Bhaerman (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington North) were 8-6 winners in the No. 2 match against Adam Levi and Chan Ton Phan.

Rachidi and freshman Juan David Velosa (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) each cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 4 and No. 6 singles action, respectively. Ward won his No. 2 singles match and Vo took the No. 5 match by an identical score of 6-4, 6-3. Barakat claimed the No. 1 match against Rollie Malfitano, 6-2, 6-1. In No. 3 singles action, Casamassima upended Lubold 6-3, 6-4.

Barakat, Casamassima, Rachidi, and Vo posted two singles wins in the fall.
