Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore midfielder Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) found the back of the net with 5:05 left in regulation to give the Philadelphia University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
After a scoreless 45 minutes, Philadelphia (3-2-0, 1-1-0 CACC) peppered the Goldey-Beacom (0-5-0, 0-2-0 CACC) net with 17 shots, 13 of them on goal. Finally, on the team's 16th shot of the second half, Dambalas broke through for his third goal of the year—second game-winner.
Junior midfielder Ryan McIntyre (Woodbury, N.J./Pitman) received a long pass at the top of the penalty box, spun away from his defender, and found a sprinting Dambalas with a pass. Dambalas did the rest as he tucked the ball under the Lightning's Carlos Meinhard into the left side of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) made one save—a diving stop to his right to deny Ernest Achak just a minute before Dambalas' goal—to record the shutout. Meinhard did all he could for the Lightning by making 14 saves, 12 in the second half.
The Rams finished the match outshooting the Lightning 24-9.
Philadelphia travels to Caldwell for a CACC match on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
