Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Junior forward Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) notched two goals as the Philadelphia University men's soccer team knocked off Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Bloomfield, 3-0, Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia improves to 5-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the CACC, while Bloomfield goes to 1-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Chagonda opened the scoring at the 28:53 mark as he made a strong run down the left side of the field after receiving a through ball from sophomore midfielder Patrick Groh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus). He cut in and beat Bloomfield keeper Arthur Clapot from 13-yards out to get the Rams on the board.
The lead doubled to 2-0 when sophomore Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite d'Youville) scored his first goal in a Philadelphia uniform just under 10 minutes into the second half. Freshman midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) fed Lynch with a centering pass from the left side, and Lynch did the rest as he tapped the ball into the open net.
Chagonda tacked on an additional insurance goal at 61:45 with another long run down the left side and buried his shot on the short side. He now has three goals this season.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) turned away one shot to record his fourth shutout of 2013. Clapot made two saves for the Deacons.
The Rams had the advantage in shots, 13-10, and corner kicks, 5-2.
