Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team knocked off Division I Rider 6-1 in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon.
Philadelphia improves to 2-4 overall, while Rider is now 0-4.
The Rams opened the match by taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles points. The No. 2 tandem of Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emile Anouar) and James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) defeated Jeremy Van Herwarde and Matthew Begley 6-5. In the No. 3 match, Juan Velosa (Bogota, Colombia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) and Matthew Germani teamed up for a 6-2 triumph over Adam Levi and Steven Murray.
Philadelphia carried the momentum from doubles into singles play, winning five of the six matches.
Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) and Nicolas Affolter (Freinbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Ausserschwz) each picked up their fourth singles win of the season. De Vera Rehberger was a 7-6, 6-3 winner over Chris Popso in No. 1 singles, while Affolter defeated Chanton Pahn at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-0.
In his first singles action of the year, Rachidi got by Begley at No. 3 singles in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Pollard dropped the first set of his No. 4 singles match against Levi 6-1, but recovered nicely to win the final two set 6-2 and 7-6.
Vo took out Murray in the No. 6 flight 6-2, 6-0.
Philadelphia's next match is a Homecoming Day showdown with Bloomsburg on Saturday, Oct. 11 at noon at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.
