Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Junior forward Dominic Rodriguez's (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) sixth-minute goal, on the first shot of the match, was the difference as the Philadelphia University men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Dominican (N.Y.) on a rainy Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia evens its overall mark at 2-2-0 after picking up its second straight win, and improves to 1-1-0 in the CACC. Dominican is now 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Rodriguez was able to track down a loose ball close to the end line and got around the left back to make a break for the goal. After getting into the penalty area, Rodriguez took a shot from a very tough angle and found the back of the net at the 5:11 mark to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. It was Rodriguez's second goal of the year.
Philadelphia's defense made the lead stand up, allowing just seven Chargers shots—only one on target. The Rams blocked three shots.
Senior keeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) made the only save he was called upon to make in the 56th minute.
The Rams attempted 11 shots, getting five on goals. The Chargers' Steven Hegner stopped four shots, three during the second half.
Philadelphia will begin a string of four consecutive road matches on Tuesday, Sept. 16 against CACC opponent Goldey-Beacom. Match time is 4 p.m.
