Men's soccer falls to Goldey-Beacom, 1-0

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team opened its string of four consecutive road matches with a 1-0 loss to host Goldey-Beacom in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday afternoon on Churchman-Sawin Field.

The Rams are now 2-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 against CACC competition, while the Lightning improve to 3-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.

Goldey-Beacom got on the board in the 61st minute when Omar Hernandez used his head to put a Fernando Sanchez crossing pass into the upper left corner of the net.

Philadelphia, who was playing with 10 men after forward Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) was sent off in the 18th minute for picking up his second yellow card, had two chances in the dying stages of the match to net the equalizer.

Back Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) fired high in the 87th minute and fellow back Chris Kulczytzky (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) hit the post with six seconds left.

The Rams' Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and the Lightning's Marcus Arryidsson each had four saves. The Lightning owned a 10-8 shot edge.

Philadelphia faces Holy Family in a CACC tilt on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the RAMP Playground in Northeast Philadelphia.
