Box Score

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Concordia (N.Y.) in the season and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener for both schools Thursday afternoon on the Holtdorf Soccer Field.

The Clippers (1-0-0, 1-0-0 CACC) scored a pair of goals four minutes apart just before the midway point of the opening half to take a 2-0 advantage.

In the 18th minute, James Walters got his head on a Jesus Alvarez-Riesco corner kick and found the back of the net for Concordia's opening goal. Javier Alvarez Vispo doubled the advantage with a 22nd-minute free kick from the top of the 18-yard box.

Junior forward Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) put Philadelphia (0-1-0, 0-1-0 CACC) on the board with a 60th-minute tally, his first of the season. After receiving a pass from junior midfielder Patrick Groh (Macugnie, Pa./Emmaus), Calwrie chipped the ball over Clipper keeper Ruel Gordon into the net to pull the Rams within one.

Philadelphia put three more shots on target over the final half hour, but couldn't beat Gordon for the equalizer.

Gordon finished the match with seven saves, six coming after halftime. Senior goalkeeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schenectady, N.Y./Duanesburg) stopped three shots for Philadelphia.

Philadelphia heads to Wheeling Jesuit for a non-conference tilt on Saturday, Sept. 6 at noon.
