Box Score

NEWARK, Del. – In 106:23 of action, the Philadelphia University men's soccer team managed just one shot on goal in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match up with 20th-ranked Wilmington on Tuesday afternoon. However, Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) made that shot count as he scored with 3:37 left in the second overtime session to give the Rams a 1-0 double overtime victory over the host Wildcats at the WU Athletics Complex.

Philadelphia picks up its fourth straight victory as it improves to 7-3-3 overall, 5-2-1 against the CACC. The Rams took over third place with the win. The Wildcats had their seven-match winning streak snapped and are now 10-2-0 overall, 7-1-0 in conference play.

Cesar Romero (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) started the match-winning sequence as he chipped the ball over the top of the Wildcat, finding Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite D'Youville) at the end line. Then, Lynch played the ball across the box for Rocha, who volleyed the ball past a diving Vinny Tasca—who came in for starter Frank Hall at the start of the second overtime—for the match-winner. It was Rocha's third goal in the last two matches.

Wilmington had a great chance to end the match on a 103rd-minute corner kick. After Geoff Valasquez's corner bounced in the box, Lance Berry took a shot at the Ram goal and hit clanked it off the crossbar. The ensuing rebound fell to Clifford Nwechefom, who had his attempt punched over the end line by a sprawling Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian)—who finished the match with two saves.

Sauer's first save came on a Jamie Burridge shot at the 54:56 mark.

The Rams were outshot 17-6.

Philadelphia travels to Nyack for a CACC match on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
