Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) scored twice for the Philadelphia University men's soccer team in a 3-2 double overtime Senior Day setback to Concordia (N.Y.) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
The loss ends the Rams' seven-match unbeaten streak as Philadelphia goes to 8-4-4 overall, 6-3-2 in the CACC. Concordia is now 8-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in conference play.
The men's soccer program honored seniors Dominic Rodriguez (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken), Zach Brown (Bowie, Md./St. John's College), James Ruff (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City), Cesar Romero (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite D'Youville), Ryan Schroy (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Jakob Passernig (Austin, Texas/Dripping Springs), Chris Kulczytzky (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), Patrick Groh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Juan Naranjo (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield), Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), Domenico Colletti (Clarksburg, N.J./Allentown), Daniel Germani (Broomall, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), and Calwrie before the match.
Javier Alvarez Vispo scored the game-winning goal with 1:03 left in the second overtime period on a free kick from 25 yards away that bent inside the left post.
The Rams had a chance to win the game 49 seconds earlier with a penalty kick attempt by Dambalas. Dambalas, who was 5-for-5 in his college career on penalty kicks, hit the right post with the kick.
Calwrie opened the scoring at the 38:18 mark with a header into the open net after Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierre de Coubertin) hit the crossbar on his initial shot.
The Clippers' David McKenzie knotted the score at one on a scramble in front of the Ram goal and found the lower right corner at 41:08.
Once again Calwrie gave Philadelphia a one-goal advantage as he one-timed a Rodriguez through ball past Ruel Gordon 15:37 into the second half. Calwrie now has four goals this year.
With 8:52 to play in regulation, McKenzie made it a 2-2 game with a shot from the left corner of the penalty area that made it inside the right post.
Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian) finished with three saves for the Rams, while Gordon had 12 stops for the Clippers. The Rams owned a 30-13 edge in shots.
Philadelphia concludes its regular season with a CACC match at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
