Men's soccer cruises to 4-1 win over Holy Family

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team got goals from four different players for the second straight match as the Rams defeated Holy Family 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Tuesday night at RAMP Playground.

Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) opened the scoring at 15:50, converting a penalty kick for the second match in a row. The Rams (5-3-3, 3-2-1 CACC) were awarded the penalty kick after a Tiger defender was called for a handball inside the penalty area. Dambalas, who is now 3-for-3 from the penalty spot, went to his left with the shot and beat a diving Dylan Rutledge for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Philadelphia worked a short corner kick to perfection to double the advantage with 5:31 left in the half. Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierre de Coubertin) played the corner to Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) on a give-and-go play. After Rose got the ball back, he lined a cross into a crowd from the right corner of the penalty area, and found the left foot of Zach Brown (Bowie, Md./St. John's College). Brown volleyed the ball out of the air for his first goal of 2015.

Rose picked up his second assist of the match on a Juan Naranjo (N. Plainfield, N.J./N/ Plainfield) goal at 55:30 as the lead grew to 3-0. Rose made a run down the left sideline into the attacking third and ended up with a 2-on-1 with Naranjo. He cut toward the goal and passed the ball to Naranjo, who did the rest to score for the third time this year.

Holy Family got one back thanks to Aiah Mbriwa at the 66:16 mark on a loose ball in front Philadelphia net. Mbriwa had a bouncing ball come to him at the left post. He quickly played the ball across the goal and inside the left post to make the score 3-1.

Dominic Rodriguez (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) reestablished the Rams' three-goal cushion with his second goal of the year. Rodriguez broke free from the Tiger defense and dribbled around Rutledge, who came out to the 18 in an attempt to stop him, for an easy tip-in goal with 4:48 left on the clock.

Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian) picked up his fifth win of the year in goal, making three saves. Rutledge stopped three shots for the Tigers.

The Rams outshot the Tigers 13-11.

Philadelphia heads to Felician to take on the Golden Falcons in a CACC match on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
