PHILADELPHIA - Now that the 2021-22 Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball season has concluded, so has the legendary coaching career of
Herb Magee.
Magee announced in September that he would be stepping away after 54 seasons at the helm of the Rams. In his final campaign, Magee led Jefferson to a 21-6 record and its third straight CACC South Division title. The Rams advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament.
Magee finishes his Hall of Fame career with a 1,144-450 record for a .718 winning percentage. He leaves the game as the all-time wins leader in NCAA Division II and second across all divisions. Magee led his teams to 31 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three regional championships and one national title, and 13 conference championships. He posted a winning record in an outstanding 50 of his 54 seasons at the helm, including the last 24 of his tenure. The Rams reached the 20-win plateau 38 times with a school-record 30 victories in 1992-93. Magee was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
The conclusion of Magee's final season sparked headlines across the country. Various media coverage can be viewed below.
