Lafayette Hill, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's lacrosse team (6-6, 6-2 CACC) cruised to a 22-6 CACC win
over the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (8-6, 5-3 CACC) on a rainy
Tuesday night. PhilaU sophomore attacker Michelle
O'Hanlon (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) led all scorers
with seven points (three goals, four assists) and freshman
midfielder Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA/
Cocalico) had a career-high night with six points (two goals, four
assists).
The Lady Rams had their feet on the gas for the entire 60
minutes, as the squad sped out to a 7-0 lead halfway through the
first stanza. Shappell had the game-winner at 18:21 for the
maroon and gray. CHC's Katie Donovan finally put her team on
the board with a goal at 17:19, but PhilaU would put four more
goals in the net at 11-1 before CHC would score again.
The Lady Rams led 14-4 at the half.
It was more Ram in the second half, as PhilaU went on a 6-0 run
to start the new period to up their ante to 20-4, including goals
from junior midfielder Kathleen Maurer (Rochester,
NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) and two from freshman attacker Jessica
Burton (Falmouth, MA/ Falmouth).
PhilaU sophomore attacker Ania Crawford (Norristown, PA/
Methacton) would score the Lady Ram's final goal at 6:15 to end the
contest with a 22-6 win. PhilaU junior goalie
Katherine Sullivan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) had
eight saves in 60 minutes of work, while CHC keeper Stephanie
Jordan made 12 stops for the Griffins.
The Lady Rams return to action on Thursday, April
16th for a 4:00 p.m. contest at Holy Family.
