Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Midfielder Kalin Hodel converted a free-position shot with 5:21 remaining to score the game-winning goal in the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team's 9-8 win over Kutztown in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
The victory improves Philadelphia's record to 3-5 and snaps its four-game losing streak. Kutztown is now 3-4.
Attack Taylor Peltzer led the Lady Rams with three goals. With those three points, Peltzer is now three away from becoming the fourth Lady Ram to record 200 career points.
Attack Emily Ray netted a pair of goals. Midfielder Carli DiCioccio and Hodel both finished with a goal and an assist.
Leeann Pica led the Golden Bears with four goals, while Emily Solt scored three times.
Philadelphia's Ellen Wright stopped eight shots in the victory. Kutztown's JoAnn McLaughlin recorded nine saves. The Lady Rams outshot the Golden Bears, 26-22.
The Lady Rams never trailed in the game after getting out to a quick 2-0 start on goals by DiCioccio and Hodel. Solt and Pica responded to tie up the game at tie with 19:50 left in the half.
After Peltzer put the Lady Rams back in the lead, Shappell, with a Lady Ram sent off for a yellow card, scored on a free-position shot to extend the lead to 4-2 at the 14:49 mark.
Attack Elizabeth Marrosu, in her first game back from injury, and Ray both scored and gave Philadelphia a 6-3 advantage. Solt got one back for the home team to make the score 6-4 at the half.
Solt and Pica came through to tie the score up at six with 20:26 still to play. After trading free-position goals, Peltzer gave the Lady Rams an 8-7 lead with an unassisted goal at the 13:15 mark. Gina Carmina tied the score at eight with 9:38 remaining to set-up Hodel's heroics.
Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a match at Wilmington (Del.) on Thursday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
