Schacker leads women's basketball to 66-44 victory over Washington Adventist

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) knocked down five three-pointers to record a career-high 19 points in the Philadelphia University women's basketball's team's 66-44 win over Washington Adventist Sunday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.

Junior guard Samantha Morris (Wenonah, N.J./Deptford) contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the victory. Freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 11 points. Arnao entered the game ninth in Division II in rebounding.

The Shock (2-14) had three players in double-figures, led by Vanessa Rice's 13 points. Jerria Brown-McDaniel contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Briana McClain poured in 10 points.

After falling behind 2-0, the Rams (9-6) rattled off nine straight points—capped by a senior guard Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) jumper at the 15:35 mark—to take a seven-point lead.

Philadelphia outscored Washington Adventist 25-6 over a 10:51 span to turn a slim one-point lead into a half-high 20-point gap (34-14) with 2:38 left in the half. Schacker was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, 3-for-3 from behind the arc, to record 11 points during the run.

The Shock ended the first half with eight straight points, including consecutive treys from McClain, to make the score 34-22 at the break.

The Rams' lead was cut to nine (45-36) with 10:53 left when Angelica Nevarez knocked down a three-pointer. Philadelphia answered with another big charge, this time is was an 18-6 surge, to widen the advantage to 21 points (63-42) with 1:35 to go. Schacker scored six of the 18 points, while Arnao added five.

Philadelphia shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the field, while holding Washington Adventist to 29.5 percent (18-of-61) shooting. The Rams also won the rebounding battle, 50-37. It was the third time this year that the Rams grabbed at least 50 rebounds.

The Rams' four-game homestand continues on Wednesday, Jan. 23 with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest against Goldey-Beacom at 6 p.m.
