Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Sophomore shortstop Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) slugged a two-out solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Philadelphia University baseball team a 6-5 win in game one of its doubleheader against UMass-Lowell Sunday afternoon at Diamond Nation. The River Hawks came back with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.

Greenwood's first career home run capped off a game that saw the Rams (1-1) overcome a 4-1 deficit.

Philadelphia's offense came to life in the top of the seventh with a four-run, four-hit frame. After junior catcher TJ Burgmann (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS) recorded a RBI single, left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) stroked a single to center field, one of his two hits in the contest, that plated right fielder Ryan Shellock (Blackwood, N.J./Triton) and third baseman Robert Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Miami-Sunset) to tie the game at four.

Burgmann scored the go-ahead run on a balk.

UMass-Lowell responded with a run in the last of the eighth to knot the game at five.

Sophomore pitcher Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) threw three innings, surrendering just the one run on two hits, and fanned one to earn the victory. Freshman Luke Floer (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) recorded a 1-2-3 ninth to record the save.

Mike Sloban took the loss for UMass-Lowell.

Sophomore starter David Lerro (Secane, Pa./Upper Darby) fanned five in five innings, while the River Hawks' Garrett Cole had eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

In game two, UMass-Lowell jumped out to a 3-0 lead by plating a pair of runs in the first and one in the third.

Philadelphia got on the board in the fourth on Shellock's first home run of 2013, a solo blast to left, that made the score 3-1.

The River Hawks got the run back in the bottom of fourth and added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

After recording his 100th career hit in game one, center fielder Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had three of Philadelphia's six hits in game two.

Geoff DeGroot had three hits and one RBI for UMass-Lowell, while Jimmy Ricoy and Greg Wilson each drove in two runs.

Sophomore starter Stephen Uhlak  (Ocean Gate, N.J./Central Reg.) took the loss as he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out two in three innings.  The River Hawks' Shane Beauchemin fanned four in six innings to get the win.

The two teams return to Diamond Nation for a doubleheader on Monday, Feb. 25 at noon.
