Box Score PHILADELPHIA -- Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) and Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) combined to score the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's final 17 points and lead the Rams to season-opening 76-67 win over American International Friday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.
Young scored nine of her game-total 20 points during the 17-5 game-ending run, while Jacobs contributed eight of her game-high 25 points.
With the Rams down 62-59, Young started the surge with a 3-point basket at the 3:57 mark to tie the score at 62. Jacobs and Young each knocked down a triple on consecutive trips down the floor to give Philadelphia a 68-62 lead with 2:34 left.
\Young hit two free throws with 38 seconds remaining to extend the cushion to 10 for the first time at 72-62. After an Alyssa Roach layup brought the Yellow Jackets (0-1) within eight, Jacobs calmly went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to reestablish the 10-point Philadelphia lead (74-64) with 27 seconds to play.
Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) also finished in double figures for the Rams with 12 points, nine coming after halftime.
American International led by eight (26-18) in the first half after a Sydney Tepley jumper at the 8:43 mark capped a 6-0 run.
Down 28-20, Philadelphia came back with 9 of the game's 11 points to tie the score at 30 on a Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) basket with 2:21 left in the half.
Crystal Holland and Tepley scored the final baskets of the half to give the Yellow Jackets a 34-30 halftime lead.
Roach and Tepley each had double-doubles for American International. Roach had 12 points and a game-high 10 assists, while Tepley recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Bishop led the team with 15 points.
The Rams shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field, 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from three. The Yellow Jackets hit 37.8 percent (28-of-74) of their attempts, including 24.0 percent (6-of-25) of their 3-point shots.
Philadelphia goes right back to work on Saturday, Nov. 15 with a match-up against the College of Saint Rose at 3 p.m.
