It was a defensive display in the opening half as the teams combined for nine shot attempts—six for Rams and three for the Lions—and getting only one on target. Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian) made the only save of the first half, denying Michael Clarke, the conference's leading scorer, with a routine save 12:05 into the contest.
Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland), the latest CACC rookie of the week, had a solid chance to put the Rams in front with a sharp-angle shot from the right side of net at the 16:20, but had his shot ring off the crossbar.
Philadelphia came out firing to start the second half with three shots at Georgian Court keeper Aleksandar Milosevic in the first 4:02. Milosevic made a diving save to deny Cesar Romero (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) at the left post at 46:59. A minute and a half later, Rocha was stopped by Milosevic with a shot going toward the right side of the net. Ryan Schroy (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had an opportunity at 49:02, but put his attempt directly into Milosevic's chest.
Rocha finally broke through for the match's opening goal at the 61:49 mark, outleaping his defender at the right post to put a Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite D'Youville) pass into the upper right corner of the Lion net. The goal is Rocha's fourth goal of the season—fourth in the last four matches.
With 3:24 remaining, the Rams were awarded a penalty kick after a Georgian Court defender was called for a hand ball on a shot attempt a yard inside the penalty area. Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) calmly stepped up and buried his shot into the goal for his team-leading sixth of 2015. Dambalas is a perfect 4-for-4 on penalty kicks this year.
Paolo Martinez (Panama City, Panama/Colegio Brader) netted the final goal—and his first since Sept. 6—with a diving header to put Romero's crossing pass inside the right post at the 1:07 left to play.
Sauer finished the match with two saves for his seventh shutout of 2015, fourth against the CACC. Milosevic ended up making four stops for Georgian Court.
