Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored a team-high 12 points for the Philadelphia University women's basketball team in a 71-47 loss to Division I Seton Hall in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon in Walsh Gymnasium.
Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) added eight points, while Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored seven points and was the game's leading rebounder with 13.
Seton Hall led the entire way, but Philadelphia kept it close throughout the first quarter. The Rams were as close as four on a Day 3-pointer with 4:22 left and after Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter), who scored nine points, made two free throws 51 seconds later.
Trailing 24-15 in the second, the Rams went on an 8-3 spurt, capped by another 3-pointer to bring the team within 27-23 at the 6:32 mark. Seton Hall ended the quarter by outscoring Philadelphia 15-6 to go up 42-29 at the half.
Seton Hall's lead remained in double figures during the second half.
Tiffany Jones scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Pirates. Tabatha Richardson-Smith poured in 14 points.
Philadelphia opens the 2015-16 season with a home contest against Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
