Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team is at the .500 mark for the first time this season after knocking off visiting Caldwell University, 16-5, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia (6-6, 4-1 CACC) received a match-high seven points (four goals, three assists) from midfielder Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area). Attack Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) found the back of the net a season-best five times, while midfielder Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) recorded a hat trick.
Midfiedler Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) chipped in with a goal and 12 draw controls.
Facing a 3-2 deficit after back-to-back goals from Christina Gonzalez and Pamela Schneck, Philadelphia would take over the match with eight consecutive goals over the final 10:49 of the first half to take a 10-3 advantage.
Six different Rams factored in the scoring, led by Mower and Marrosu who each scored twice during the surge. DiGnazio, Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville), Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), and Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added one goal each. The Rams scored their eight goals on 10 shots, while holding the Cougars (3-7, 2-4 CACC) to just four. Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) turned aside three shots to keep Caldwell off the board.
After Caldwell opened the second half scoring with a Pamela Schneck free position goal, Philadelphia—paced by two DiGnazio and Marrosu goals—rattled off six in a row to push the margin to 16-4 with 3:56 left. Ryder and Mower added one goal each. Caldwell had two goals waved off during the run for illegal sticks.
Gonzalez and Schneck scored twice to pace Caldwell.
Matteis finished the contest with 12 saves, while Melissa Garris recorded 10 stops.
The Rams owned a 34-25 shot advantage.
Philadelphia plays its final regular season home match of the season on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. against Mercy College. The Rams will honor their five seniors prior to the start of the match.
