Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (8-10, 5-5 CACC) stormed back in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Bloomfield (3-15, 3-7 CACC), 68-63 in CACC action on Saturday night.
GAMEPLAY
The Bears started the contest with an 11-2 run in the game's first three minutes. Bloomfield continued to increase its lead and was up by as much as 13 (19-6) with 3:14 on the clock. However, the Rams rallied for nine straight points to close the gap to four (19-15) by the end of the period.
Bloomfield began the second with a three to go ahead 24-16. Trailing 31-22, Jefferson had a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to two (31-29) before the Bears made a layup prior to halftime.
The second half opened with Bloomfield tallying six points in a row to make it a 10-point game (39-29). Senior Alynna Williams drilled a three at the 3:34 mark to get the Rams within three (44-41). The Bears held a four-point advantage (52-48) heading into the fourth.
In the final period, Bloomfield still had the upper hand by a 59-52 count with 6:20 to go. That was when Jefferson caught fire, going on a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game with 1:50 left. After the Bears tied it with a layup, Williams scored her own layup, recorded a steal and converted another layup to put the Rams up 65-61 (0:22). After a Bloomfield basket, Williams sank two foul shots and the Bears missed a three-point attempt that would have made it a one-point margin. Williams had one more free throw to finish off the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Williams totaled 23 points, six assists and four steals.
- Junior Allie Warren posted her first career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
- Freshman Haley Meinel tallied 11 points and junior Sabria Lytes added 10.
AS A TEAM
- The Rams shot 38.5% (25-for-65) from the floor, 25.0% (4-for-16) on threes and 66.7% (14-for-21) on free throws.
- The rebounds were even between the squads at 44 apiece.
- Each team also had 17 turnovers.
NOTES
- It was head coach Tom Shirley's 785th career win (636 at Jefferson).
