Philadelphia, PA – The Jefferson Women's Soccer team has been doing their part to kick pediatric cancer since 2017 by partnering with Vs. Cancer.
The summer of 2017 they lost a value member of their team. Brooke Mulford who was member of the team through Team IMPACT, passed away after an eight-year battle with neuroblastoma at only twelve years old. The loss broke the hearts of the team and left them feeling the need to do more. That is when they decided to join forces with Vs. Cancer.
In partnership with Vs. Cancer, half of the money raised helps fund national brain tumor research efforts through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, while the other half goes directly to the pediatric oncology unit at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Since 2017 the team has raised close to $7,000. Every year the amount raised has raised. The team celebrates their efforts during their homecoming match each year. They wear Vs. Cancer shirts and yellow ribbons, pass out information and collect donations at the game.
Vs. Cancer was founded in 2012 by childhood brain tumor survivor Chase Jones, who was a collegiate baseball player at the University of North Carolina during the time of his diagnosis. The support of his teammates during treatment was his largest source of strength, which Vs. Cancer now provides to kids across the U.S. by working with college athletic teams.
Vs. Cancer has worked with hundreds of athletes, teams and communities nationwide to fund the comprehensive spectrum of the pediatric cancer battle: from research initiatives across the country to healing programs within local children's hospitals. With the help of their student athletes, Vs. Cancer has raised over $4 million dollars since their inception.
